NEXT Conference is the digital festival on Hamburg’s Reeperbahn, which transforms the city into the epicentre of the European digital scene for two days. At its heart is the question as to what will mobilise consumers in the near future. Digital transformation is happening but oftentimes, digital products simply don’t live up to their promises, leaving users in a kind of limbo between overpromise and underdelivery. What’s even more: Digital transformation is not a state we’ll ever overcome, no process that can ever be completed. On the contrary: It makes us live permanently in some sort of beta version. The things we thought to know, may not be true anymore. What was hot yesterday, might be boring or even obsolete the day after. And that is a huge challenge, both for companies and our society as a whole. Sometimes it’s hard. It always takes time, energy – and courage. That’s why this year’s theme is: digital sucks! But it’s worth taking the risk 😉

NEXT does not hail all technological innovation, but rather aims at setting technology in a broader context, critically asking how it can help solving a certain problem or serves a specific need.
